The long read
Energy security after the pivot
Diversification solved one problem and created another: dependence is now spread across more partners, each with its own leverage.
Security of supply used to be a story about volumes. Increasingly it is a story about relationships — who you buy from, on what terms, and how quickly those terms can change.
For southern Europe, North African gas is not a hedge against dependence so much as a different shape of it. The task is to make that dependence mutual: to give suppliers a stake in European stability, and Europe a stake in supplier development.
Interdependence is not weakness. Unmanaged interdependence is.
That is where analysis matters — mapping not just the pipelines, but the incentives running through them.
